Who is called as the Gurudev of the Bodos in Assam?
Kali Charan Brahma

 Kali Charan Brahma is called as the Gurudev of the Bodos in Assam. He was a 20th-century social and religious reformer of Bodo society. He attained diksha in a new religion called Brahmo Dharma / Brahmoism Adi Brahmo Samaj in Calcutta around 1906, and is reverentially called Gurudev or Guru Brahma by the Bodo people of lower plains of Assam along the Brahmaputra valley. Other great Assamese Brahmos of the time include Gunabhiram Barua and Swarnalata Devi of the same faction, all of whom agitated against Colonialist Imperialism of any kind.

Kalicharan was born on 18 April 1860, at Kajigaon village in Dhubri district, Assam state of India. His father was Khoularam Mech and mother was Randini Mech. Khoularam was a timber merchant and one of the rich person of the those days, as Kalicharan grew up he became intelligent, honest and thoughtful. He became a great religious preacher of Brahma faith and brought over revolutionary changes in Bodo society by his continuous and sustained programme of reformation against the prevailing Bathou worship.

Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma is revered as a great social reformer and a champion of the Bodo people. He is credited with bringing about many positive changes in Bodo society, including the abolition of child marriage, the promotion of education, and the introduction of a new script for the Bodo language. He is also remembered for his work in promoting peace and harmony between the Bodo and non-Bodo communities.

Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma died on 8 May 1938. He is still remembered as a great leader and a martyr for the Bodo cause. His legacy lives on in the form of the many institutions and organizations that he founded, including the Brahma Dharma Mission, the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, and the Bodo Language Board.
