Tarun Ram Phukan

 Tarun Ram Phukan (22 January 1877 – 28 July 1939) was a prominent leader of Assam. He was popularly known as Deshbhakta.

Phukan was born in 1877 in a reputed family of Assam. He was educated in Cotton Collegiate School, Guwahati and Presidency College, Calcutta. He moved to the Bar from Inner Temple in London. He educated as a lawyer but also served as lecturer in Earle Law College in Guwahati.

He was a member of the Assam Association, a political organization that was founded in 1894. He was also a member of the Indian National Congress, and he represented Assam in the Congress sessions in 1905, 1909, and 1915.

Phukan was a strong advocate for the rights of Assamese people. He was one of the leaders of the Assamese movement against the partition of Assam in 1905. He also opposed the British government's policy of 'divide and rule'.

Phukan was a prolific writer, and he wrote extensively on Assamese history and culture. He was also a poet, and his poems were published in various magazines and newspapers.
