In India, the so called lower castes have been treated for a long time who advised Bama to fight against this prejudice, when and how?
Bama wished to double up with laughter when she saw the elderly person. But Bama's brother Annan explained to her the seriousness of the ridiculous incident. He made her understand that as they were born into the community of the marginalized, they were never given any honour, dignity or respect. They had rather all been stripped of the basic rights of a person. So he explained to her that if they studied and made progress in their social, economic and living standards, they could shake off all these indignities. Annan advised Bama to study carefully and learn all she could. If she was always ahead in her lessons, people would come to her of their own accord and attach themselves to her. Annan's words spoken to Bama made a very deep impression on her and inspired her to study hard and seriously with all her efforts for significant progress.
