Gender Discrimination in Our Society and Ways to Overcome it

While India is suffering its age-old gender discrimination, the rest of the world is about to achieve gender equality. Indian trend of retaining patriarchal system is at its root. As a result, in Indian society, females are still facing lots of barriers to get the equal rights in all domains of life despite the privileges given by the Constitution of India. This discrimination leads to educational backwardness for girls. In spite of so many educational reforms, girls in India still suffer the discrimination in many ways. They still do not access to equal education, equality in employment, and do not get legal protection, proper medical care, religious freedom, and freedom of political representation. They are also the victims of racism, cheap social mind sets and sexual harassment. Gender stereotyping in our society is another point of discrimination. Still now society has not changed its mind sets towards females. Moreover, females are also lacking awareness and courage to demand their rights. They are dependent on their male counterpart which is a great problem of their being the victims of discrimination.

Gender discrimination across India can only be checked when females are ensured with the equal access to education which will help them attain economic independence and contribute towards their growth and development. Some laws should be passed to empower women in the workplace, protect their reproductive rights, strengthen legal protections, provide proper medical care and prioritise the most marginalized for the betterment of them as well as the society.
