1st ICS of Assam

 The first Indian Civil Service (ICS) officer from Assam was Anundoram Borooah. He was born in 1850 in the village of Dehingmukh in Assam. He was a brilliant student and he went on to study at the Presidency College in Calcutta. In 1870, he passed the ICS examination and became the fifth Indian to join the service.

Barooah served as a district magistrate and collector in various parts of India. He was also a member of the Indian Council of State, the highest advisory body to the British government in India. He was a strong advocate for the rights of the Assamese people and he worked to improve the education and welfare of the people of Assam.

Barooah died in 1889 at the age of 39. He is considered a national hero in Assam and his contributions to the state are still remembered today.
