Assam Legislative Council was established in the year
1913 A.D.

 The Assam Legislative Council was established in 1913. It was the unicameral legislature of Assam in India from 1913 to 1935 and then the upper house of the bicameral legislature from 1935 to 1947, when it was disbanded by the India (Provincial Legislatures) Order, 1947, and the Assam Legislative Assembly became unicameral.

The Legislative Council of Assam first met on 6th January, 1913 at 11 a.m. at Shillong, which was presided over by Sir Archdale Easle, the Chief Commissioner of Assam. The Council had a strength of 34 members, of which 13 were nominated by the Chief Commissioner and 21 were elected by the people.

The Assam Legislative Council was revived in 2016 under the Assam Legislative Council Act, 2016. The first sitting of the revived Council took place on 29th January, 2017 at Dispur, Guwahati. The current Chairman of the Assam Legislative Council is Shri Parimal Suklabaidya.
