Assam legislative Assembly was established in the year
1937 A.D.

 The Assam Legislative Assembly was established in 1937. It was the lower house of the bicameral legislature of Assam from 1937 to 1947, when it became unicameral after the disbandment of the Assam Legislative Council.

The Assam Legislative Assembly first met on 7th April, 1937 in the Assembly Chamber at Shillong, the erstwhile Capital of the composite State of Assam. The first Speaker of the Assembly was Shri Radhanath Das.

The current Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly is Shri Biswajit Daimary. He was elected Speaker on 29th May, 2021.

The Assam Legislative Assembly currently has a strength of 126 members, of which 60 are elected from general seats, 34 from reserved seats for Scheduled Tribes, and 32 from reserved seats for Scheduled Castes. The Assembly meets at the Assam Legislative Assembly Building in Dispur, Guwahati.

The Assam Legislative Assembly, also known as the Assam Vidhan Sabha, was established in 1937. It was created under the Government of India Act, 1935, which introduced limited self-governance in British India and allowed for the establishment of legislative bodies in various provinces, including Assam. The first elections to the Assam Legislative Assembly were held in 1937, and it has continued to be the primary legislative body for the state of Assam in India.
